Yes. A new account can show your role as Reader, and it does not prevent you from submitting. The author role is added to your account the moment you start a submission.
So the way past this is to start the submission. The role follows.
What to do
- Sign in to {{journal}} with the account you registered.
- Go to Submissions in the menu at the top.
- Choose Make a new submission.
- Work through the form. Your account becomes an author account at that point, and stays one.
Why it looks like this
The role on your account describes what you have done on the journal so far, not what you are allowed to do. Until you have started a submission, there is nothing to attach an author role to, so the account reads as Reader.
It is not a restriction that has been placed on you, and it is nothing you did wrong.
What it does affect
While your account still reads as Reader, it may look wrong in lists of journal users. If you have already published with us and your account shows Reader, tell us and we will correct the record. That is a tidy-up on our side and does not change anything about your paper.
If you still cannot start a submission
If Make a new submission is missing, or the button does nothing when you click it, write to contact@asidejournals.com and tell us:
- the journal
- the email address on your account
- what you see on the screen where you expected the button
Do not send your password. We never need it.
Before you write, it is worth checking I submitted but nothing happened — if you started a submission on an earlier visit, it may be waiting for you to finish rather than waiting to be started.
